TOGAF Foundation Level Certification – Practice Test (free sample questions)
If you plan to appear for a TOGAF foundation level certification or part 1 exam, one of the difficulties you will face is a lack of free sample questions. This lack of practice multiple choice questions prompted me to create my own set. I have gone by the advice of Chris Eaton to create this paper before I take the test to avoid any issue that these questions copy the official exam questions.

I’m planning to take the TOGAF9.1 Certification could you please guide me. to take the certification?
Thank you for your effort. Even though your test made me loos my confidence in the first step, it led me to review the contents more carefully!!. As a result, today I passed TOGAF Foundation exam with 87% .And of course the questions was much simpler than here.
I just want to emphasis that one needs to “understand” the foundation, otherwise it would be a little confusing to decide between the 4 choices in each question.
Repeat and Repeat the study guide and Do make some notes for yourself !

The guide vailable in http://pubs.opengroup.org/architecture/togaf9-doc/arch/ is enough for preperation of version 9.1? I am planning give exam by next month.

Was planning to take the TOGAF certification. Can you please guide on which documents and study guide to refer for foundation and level 2. confused a bit with the materies on the open group site. Do you require formal training for both the levels?

Hello Syed You need to answer 22 right out of 40 questions in order to pass TOGAF Foundation (Part 1) exam. The passing percentage is 55%. I hope it helps. Good luck.

The answer to your 2nd question doesn’t match with the definition given in TOGAF training guide for 9.1. As per the guide, definition of Architecture is – A – “The fundamental organization of a system, embodied in its components, their relationships to each other and the environment, and the principles governing its design and evolution”. But the answer in your doc says “E”.
Can you clarify it?

Please check the section 2.2 of TOGAF 9.1 specification.
2.2 What is Architecture in the Context of TOGAF?
ISO/IEC 42010: 2007 defines ‘‘architecture’’ as:
‘‘The fundamental organization of a system, embodied in its components, their
relationships to each other and the environment, and the principles governing its design
and evolution.’’
TOGAF embraces but does not strictly adhere to ISO/IEC 42010: 2007 terminology. In TOGAF,
‘‘architecture’’ has two meanings depending upon the context:
1. A formal description of a system, or a detailed plan of the system at component level to
guide its implementation
2. The structure of components, their inter-relationships, and the principles and guidelines
governing their design and evolution over time
What you have indicated is ISO/IEC 42010 definition.

I cleared the exam last week. Thanks for all your insights. I used the study material in the website http://pubs.opengroup.org/architecture/togaf9-doc/arch/index.html. I should say if you have read the material atleast once Scenario questions aren’t that difficult. Before the exam I took Chris sample questions and failed. But the actual exam was much easier I should say.
So go ahead guys this exam is not to test your architecture skills, it is to make sure you have read the TOGAF material.
Now, I am looking for applying these principles in real life.

Here are the objectives of phase H based on 9.1 documentation:
• Ensure that the architecture lifecycle is maintained
• Ensure that the Architecture Governance Framework is executed
• Ensure that the enterprise’s Architecture Capability meets current requirements
I was not able to answer 19 since the objectives seem to have changed.
Also, in case of question 31, isn’t ‘context’ part of Architectural Governance Conceptual Structure?

However, Q31 is not affected by Togaf 9.1. If you see the Architecture Capability Framework diagram – it contains Process, Content, Repository & Process Flow Control.
Sam has raised an interesting point, that is “is context a part of the architecture governance framework?”
Apart from providing the diagram, the TOGAF document does not provide much explanation apart from saying that “The split of process, content, and context are key to the support of the architecture governance initiative, by allowing the introduction of new governance material (legal, regulatory, standards based, or legislative) without unduly impacting the processes.”
I am inclined to think that the “context” defines the boundary of the framework and the “Process, Content, Repository and Process Flow Control” are its constituents.
I was not able to verify that option C for question 18 is correct in the Foundation level study guide i.e.
C: To finalize the Architecture Vision and Architecture Definition Documents, in line with the agreed implementation approach

– To ensure that the Implementation and Migration Plan is coordinated with the various management frameworks in use within the enterprise
– To prioritize all work packages, projects, and building blocks by assigning business value to each and conducting a cost/benefit analysis
– To finalize the Architecture Vision and Architecture Definition Documents, in line with the agreed implementation approach
– To confirm the Transition Architectures defined in Phase E with the relevant stakeholders
– To create, evolve, and monitor the detailed Implementation and Migration Plan, providing necessary resources to enable the realization of the Transition Architectures, as defined in Phase E
It seems The Open group has changed objectives of phase F in the latest Study guide.; I purchased it recently.
This is what I see :
(Syllabus Reference: Unit 6, Learning Outcome F.1: You should
be able to describe the main objectives for Phase F.)
• Finalize the Architecture Roadmap and the supporting Implementation and Migration Plan
• Ensure that the Implementation and Migration Plan is coordinated with the enterprise’s
approach to managing and implementing change in the enterprise’s overall change portfolio
• Ensure that the business value and cost of work packages and Transition Architectures is
understood by key stakeholders

I had to give up after few questions. I do not get your fundamental logic or terminology ?
For example:
Q1: What do you exactly mean by “TOGAF document” ?
Q2: What is the difference between A and E beside existrence of plans and descriptions in E? Architecture can exist even if it is not described. By saying E is the right answer, you implay architecture does not exist if it is not described? Ie not discovered by arhitect? Descriptions and plans are just architects view on the architecture. Systems and their architectures do exist even if never seen by humans.

It looks like all the provided options for Q34 are true for that question as per TOGAF 9 Foundation Guide page 169 ‘recommended steps’. I could not find the right answer for that?
Please can you clarify?
Also as I mentioned I am going to book a test in early March and I am almost done with my preparations, is it sitll mendatory to read v9.1? The link here http://www.opengroup.org/togaf/faqs.htm specifies that either would be fine before June2013 but some of the online practice tests have asked questions based on v9.1 as well? Any idea?
